Red Sox call up MLB's No. 1 prospect Roman Anthony

BOSTON — After weeks of endless speculation, intrigue, and unceasing pressure from every corner of the baseball world, the Boston Red Sox are finally calling up Roman Anthony.
Major League Baseball’s No. 1 overall prospect confirmed the news himself, on camera to MassLive’s Katie Morrison-O’Day, as he got into his car to make the drive from Worcester’s Triple-A Polar Park to Fenway Park. The rest of the WooSox were about to go on a road trip to play the Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate in Lehigh Valley, Pa.
Anthony is the last of Boston’s "Big Three" prospects to get the call. He’ll join infielder/outfielder Kristian Campbell, who debuted on Opening Day, and infielder Marcelo Mayer, who debuted on May 24, in the big leagues.
While Anthony wasn’t listed in the original lineup for Monday’s series opener with the visiting Tampa Bay Rays, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the 21-year-old outfielder is expected to bat fifth in the contest.
In turn, the Red Sox are placing fellow outfielder Wilyer Abreu on the injured list, a source confirmed to the Boston Herald.
