Kid Rock says his appearance at Sunday’s MAGA alternative to Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show was taped in advance, but insists there was no lip-syncing involved.

Viewers who saw the 55-year-old musician headline Turning Point USA’s event noticed his performance of the 1998 song “Bawitdaba” didn’t seem quite right.

During a Monday night interview on Fox News, Kid Rock acknowledged there were production issues, but said he did actually sing live for the dozens of fans who attended the taping.

“It was very difficult for the Turning Point production crew, who by the way I can’t say enough good things about, but this was very difficult for ’em,” he said.

Kid Rock explained that his high-energy performance was tricky to record partly because while he was rapping and trying to catch his breath, his DJ was “filling in the other parts” of the song in real time.

“I even told them when I saw the rough cut, I was like, ‘You guys got to work on that sync. It’s off,'” he said. “So it was just a syncing issue that they had, and I know they tried to get it right. It was very difficult.”

Around 135 million viewers tuned in to watch Bad Bunny’s elaborate live performance from northern California during Sunday’s game. Roughly 6 million people saw Kid Rock’s show, which was taped in Atlanta, according to Variety.
