Orioles game Wednesday vs. Mets at Camden Yards postponed because of rain

BALTIMORE — Thursday might be the most important day of the Orioles’ season.
The Orioles’ game against the New York Mets at Camden Yards on Wednesday evening has been postponed because of rain. The forecast of steady rain in Baltimore throughout the night made it unlikely to envision getting the game, originally scheduled for 7:05 p.m., in at a reasonable hour.
The Orioles and Mets elected to push Wednesday’s game — Baltimore’s fifth postponement this season — to Thursday. The clubs will play a split-admission doubleheader with the first game scheduled for 12:05 p.m. and the second at 5:05 p.m.
Baltimore is 40-50 and is running out of time to get its season back on track. A sweep of the Mets on Thursday would put the Orioles at eight games under .500 for the first time since May 6 — before manager Brandon Hyde’s firing. However, losing both games Thursday would drop the Orioles back down to 12 games under .500 — a deficit that is likely too deep to come back from.
