Royals-Cardinals game postponed because of inclement weather in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS — Jac Caglianone’s debut in right field will have to wait another day.
The Kansas City Royals’ scheduled Wednesday evening game against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium was postponed because of inclement weather in St. Louis.
The I-70 series will resume Thursday with a split doubleheader. The Royals beat the Cardinals 10-7 in Tuesday’s series opener.
Thursday’s first game is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. Central Time at Busch Stadium. Game 2 will start at 6:45 p.m., concluding the rivalry series.
The Cardinals announced that tickets from Wednesday’s postponed game will be valid and honored for Thursday’s first game of the doubleheader.
Rainy weather moved into the St. Louis area early Wednesday morning. There was a tornado warning in until 3:30 p.m. as the teams arrived at the stadium.
After a short discussion between the clubs and Major League Baseball, the game was postponed. Gates for Game 1 of the doubleheader will open at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, while the nightcap will take place as originally scheduled, with gates opening at 5:15 p.m.
The Royals will stick with their initial starting rotation for the Thursday’s first game. Rookie Noah Cameron, who hails from St. Joseph, Mo., had been slated to pitch on Wednesday. He will now start Game 1 of the doubleheader.
Cameron has posted a 1.05 ERA in 25 2/3 innings — four starts — and allowed just one earned run in a previous start against the Cincinnati Reds at Kauffman Stadium.
Left-handed ace Ragans will start Game 2 of the doubleheader — but he is currently on the 15-day injured list with a left-groin strain. A corresponding roster move will be needed in order for Ragans to be activated.
Ragans missed two starts but made a rehab start last week with Double-A Northwest Arkansas. The Royals have deemed him ready for big-league action again.
The Royals (32-29) had already shuffled their lineup with the arrival Tuesday of top prospect Caglianone. The club had planned to start Caglianone in right field Wednesday, and it’s possible he could still draw an outfield start in either of the two Thursday games.
The Cardinals (33-27) will start right-handed pitcher Miles Mikolas in Game 1 Thursday. He was originally slated to start Wednesday’s game against the Royals. In Game 2, St. Louis will send out left-hander Matthew Liberatore.
