A drama from a French filmmaker boasting a well-known U.S. star tops the DVD releases for the week of April 14.

"A Private Life": Rebecca Zlotowski’s film noir stars Jodie Foster as an American psychiatrist who lives in Paris, a role that gives the star a chance to utilize her fluency in French. When a troubled patient dies suddenly, Foster’s Lilian begins to suspect there is more to the story than first appears, turning into an amateur sleuth.

Film critic Moira Macdonald of The Seattle Times gave the movie 3.5 out of 4 stars in her review, writing: "'A Private Life' is a murder mystery only on its surface; at its heart, it’s an exploration of a lonely woman’s extremely active mind, and an unexpectedly moving story of becoming more present in one’s real life, rather than one’s imaginary one."
