NEW YORK — Justin Baldoni is celebrating after the recent twist in his ongoing legal saga with “It Ends With Us” co-star Blake Lively.
Judge Lewis J. Liman, a federal judge in the Southern District of New York, on Thursday agreed to dismiss 10 of the 13 claims Lively filed against 42-year-old Baldoni after they clashed on the set of the 2024 adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel by the same name. They include all claims related to sexual harassment, defamation and conspiracy.
“We’re very pleased the Court dismissed all sexual harassment claims and every claim brought against the individual defendants: Justin Baldoni, Jamey Heath, Steve Sarowitz, Melissa Nathan, and Jennifer Abel,” Alexandra Shapiro and Jonathan Bach of Shapiro Arato Bach said in a statement shared with People.
“These were very serious allegations, and we are grateful to the Court for its careful review of the facts, law and voluminous evidence that was provided,” the statement said.
They concluded: “What’s left is a significantly narrowed case, and we look forward to presenting our defense to the remaining claims in court.”
Lively is still allowed to pursue certain claims of retaliation against Baldoni’s public relations team over alleged harm to her reputation, Liman ruled. In regards to the sexual harassment claims, he noted that some of Baldoni’s conduct “was not so far beyond what might reasonably be expected to take place between two characters” in a passionate film like “It Ends With Us.”
His decisions comes one month ahead the the scheduled start of their trial.
Rumors about a behind-the-scenes conflict began to swirl amid promotion for the movie before Lively eventually filed a complaint accusing Baldoni of on-set sexual harassment and retaliation in December 2024.
Baldoni, who also directed the film, filed counterclaims against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, which Liman dismissed in June.
