Brynn Whitfield first Real Housewife of NYC to exit amid cast shakeup rumors

NEW YORK — Brynn Whitfield is the first core star of “The Real Housewives of New York City” to leave the rebooted series amid a rumored cast shakeup.
The 39-year-old entrepreneur, who has been the center of ongoing drama with her castmates, announced Monday that she was departing the hit reality TV franchise after two seasons.
“After a lot of thought, I’ve made the decision to walk away from reality TV. For now,” she wrote via her Instagram Story. “Last week, Hoppy — the dating app I co-founded and proudly serve as Chief Marketing Officer — hit a massive download milestone. I can’t even put into words how surreal it feels. All I want to do now is pour every ounce of energy into building Hoppy into the #1 dating app in the world.”
Whitfield also shared that she was thankful for her time on the series: “[It] will always be one of the most fun, chaotic, and magical chapters of my life. It was the honor of a lifetime to help reboot such an iconic franchise. From day one, I’ve believed RHONY is a fan’s show — we’re just temporary custodians of something that truly belongs to the viewers. I hope I made you laugh (a lot), cry (a little), and more than anything — I hope there’s a TV in heaven so that Mimi (who LIVED for her shows) could watch me and be proud.”
Mimi is Whitfield’s nickname for her grandmother Darlene, who died in 2021.
Whitfield’s exit follows much speculation that her future with the series hung in the balance, considering the tension with her co-stars during the cast trip to Puerto Rico in the Season 15 finale.
Her frenemy, Somali model and entrepreneur Ubah Hassan, alleged that she slept with someone to get cast on the show, which led Whitfield to share that she had been sexually assaulted in the past. She was upset by the insinuation and claimed Hassan was fully aware of her past incident.
Cast on “RHONY” in 2022, Whitfield recently made headlines when she described her salary from the show as her “DoorDash money.”
Whitfield helped breathe new life into the aging franchise following the tumultuous 13th season. She joined Erin Lichy, Jenna Lyons, Jessel Taank, Sai De Silva and Hassan for the series’ reboot, with Racquel Chevremont joining in Season 15.
In May, “Real Housewives” kingpin Andy Cohen fought back rumors that the show was being shelved and assured fans that “Real Housewives of New York City” isn’t going anywhere.
“This is called the casting process between seasons and it’s heavily underway,” the executive producer explained on SiriusXM’s “Andy Cohen Live” on May 13. “That’s why nothing has been announced.”
He also shared that “Bravo execs met with 10 potential new Real Housewives of New York” — so Whitfield may not be the only current cast member leaving the show.
