Plastic shouldn’t be among the ingredient amalgamation that creates any sausage, which is why Kayem Foods announced Thursday it is recalling about 24,173 pounds of ready-to-eat sausage.

The Chelsea, Massachusetts, company recalled al fresco Chicken Sausage Sweet Apple with Vermont made syrup flavor in 11-ounce vacuum-packed packs, lot No. 179, to be used or frozen by Oct. 1, 2025. Establishment number “P-7839” is inside the USDA inspection mark.

“The problem was discovered after the company notified (USDA-Food Safety Inspection Service) that it received three consumer complaints reporting white pieces of plastic in the chicken sausage products,” the USDA-posted recall notice said.

Among the retailers nationwide getting this sausage is Walmart, which quickly posted on its website that the sausage went to Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia and these 26 states:

Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Missouri, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont and West Virginia.

If you have this sausage, return it to the store for a refund. Or throw it in the garbage.
