SAN DIEGO — Vehicle traffic in San Diego was temporarily blocked from entering Mexico on Interstate 5 Monday due to teachers protesting at the border in Tijuana.

All southbound Interstate 5 traffic was diverted off the freeway onto Camino de la Plaza, creating a detour on San Ysidro streets, Caltrans said on the social media platform X shortly before noon.

The freeway was reopened about a half-hour later, Caltrans said.

The protest was organized by members of the National Coordinating Committee of Education Workers, or CNTE, who have held nationwide protests in recent weeks to push for better wages, among other issues.
